BELATED SPRING UPDATE:

After a bumpy start, the Colordripper idea I launched earlier this year is coming together.

I jumped into this project with an 8th grade science background (long story about how I have been bullied from age 0 to present day and began to act out in school), therefore when I started this I literally had no understanding of even the most basic chemistry. For the first batches, I was using a drop of 99.99% pure isopropyl alcohol to break up the oils a bit. Evidently this is a highly effective plastic solvent and was causing some of them to leak! Not to be discouraged, I tediously glued those hidden seams by hand with a syringe, only to find out that the sun is great at softening up that glue.

I can trace my infatuation with moving colors to a boring one-color liquid filled souvenir I received as a child at King's Dominion.

My preoccupation was not in the liquids though, but rather in the 'stimming'. This type of self stimulation or repetition is evidently a coping mechanism for many people with ASD. In my case, looking back it was a means to calm down my anxiety from relentless bullying. Thankfully I found refuge in my drawings or I would surely not be alive today rambling.

I certainly won't be putting fidget spinners out of business anytime soon, however, people on the autism spectrum and those who have sensory processing issues are getting therapeutic value from them which is rewarding. And I suspect that many others who are buying them for play are also on the spectrum and don't know, but I digress.

The retail price is still too high, however I am scaling up production this year & am currently in the process of setting up an art studio + workshop.
