Lofoten is a small picturesque group of islands in Norway, renowned for their mountain scenery and pristine beaches due to it's remote proximity to the arctic circle. You've surely seen pictures of this place in advertisements.

What that has to do with this painting is pure conjecture. Is there some underlying symbolism the artist is trying to convey, or was it simply a word he picked up from the Science Channel, or Wikipedia? If you asked him direct, he'd give you a sly reply like "Each person can find their own meaning or beauty in this". At any rate, no piece of artwork will ever be as beautiful as what nature creates.

This was painted with pen & ink, and then touched up just a hair with photoshop to create unbalance and tension, and to skew the colors in a few areas to add intrigue.
